Tragic! Class II boy dies as tree branch falls on him in Odisha school
Khurda: In a freak mishap, a minor boy succumbed to injuries after a branch of a tree fell on him while he was playing on the school premises in Odisha’s Khurda district.
As per reports, Ritesh Pradhan – a Class-II student – was playing on the school premises during recess period. Suddenly a dead branch of a tree fell on him and he sustained grievous injuries.
He was rushed to Nirakarpur community health center (CHC) for treatment. Later, he was referred to district headquarters hospital. However, he succumbed on the way to the healthcare facility.
As per villagers, the tree was damaged due to cyclone Fani. Some dead branches were hanging from the tree. They alleged negligence on part of the school authorities as the branches were not cut despite bringing to their notice a number of times.
The tragic incident took place at Kshetrabasi Nodal High School in Nirakarpur.
“The boy had climbed the tree and fell down as the branch broke. He suffered head injuries. We rushed him to Nirakarpur hospital. The branch could be a dead one,” said school headmaster Udaynath Tripathy said.
A pall of gloom has descended on the village after the incident.
Tension ran high after the incident owing which the headmaster filed an FIR at the local police station.
