Tragic! Couple trampled to death in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: In a tragic incident, a couple was trampled to death by an elephant near a cashew plantation at Dudhakateni village under Dhenkanak Sadar forest range today.

The deceased have been identified as Dambaru Pradhan and his wife Sukanti of Ramei village under Gondia police limits in the district.

Sources said the two were returning to their house on a bike after witnessing Dola Jatra when an elephant attacked them on a canal bridge at Dudhakateni village early this morning. While one of them died on the spot, another succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here.

Meanwhile, irate locals have alleged that elephant death cases are rising in the district due to inaction of forest officials and the district administration.
