Train mishap averted as 5 bogies detach from engine in Odisha

Athagarh: A major accident was averted after five bogies of a goods train got detached from the engine near Nidhipur Ghantikhal railway station in Athagarh this morning.

However, no loss of life or injuries was reported in the mishap since there was no movement of any other train on the track at that time.

Reports said the engine moved forward leaving five of its bogies and later halted at a distance near Nidhipur Ghantikhal railway station. The mishap affected road traffic on Puruna Cuttack-Sambalpur route with hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the road at Nidhipur level crossing.

Soon after railway officials were informed about the mishap, a maintenance team reached the spot for repair work. Te train service later resumed, sources added.
