Under-trial prisoner dies in Odisha’s Phulbani jail

An under-trial prisoner died inside the district jail in Odisha’s Kandhamal on Sunday.

According to reports, the deceased, identified as Medina Kanhar (52) of Saitingia village under Phiringia police station limits, was lodged at the district jail since August last year on charges of murdering Dhruba Kanhar.

On Sunday, he was on his way to his cell carrying food when he suddenly collapsed. He was rushed to the district headquarters hospital where the doctors declared him as ‘brought dead’.

“The cause of the death of the UTP would be known after the post mortem,” said IIC of Phulbani Town Police Station Ramakanta Sahu.

Meanwhile, the family members have attributed the death of Medina to lack of proper medical treatment.
