A couple, Kalia Sahu and his wife Sukanti, and their neoghbour Shanti Pati were found murdered in Lane No 4 of Bharatpur slum here yesterday afternoon.

“We have got some important leads in the case and based on these leads, we are trying to locate Bhabani Pati, the grandson of one of the deceased, who is absconding since the day of the incident. After nabbing him, the mystery behind the triple murder case would come to light,” Twin City Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr RP Sharma said here today.

“We strongly suspect that property dispute between Bhabani and the deceased couple – Kalia Sahu and Sukanti Sahu – led to the murder. We have found that Bhabani had married Kalia’s granddaughter, who committed suicide allegedly due to the torture of her husband. After her death, there is no one to share the property of Kalia Sahu. There were repeated fights between him and the Sahu couple over this and the accused used to threaten them to get that property,” said Dr Sharma.

Police said there are several criminal cases pending against Bhabani, who is also alleged to be a drug addict. A team of special squad is searching for Bhabani.

The police is trying to ascertain of it was a pre-planned murder; whether Bhabani was the sole perpetrator or there were others involved; why Bhabani killed his own grandmother; whether she was an eyewitness in the case. The answers to these questions would lead them to the killers and the motive behind the killing, police say.
