Bhabani alias Bhuban was on the run since the gory incident on Tuesday that claimed three lives.

Bhubana was first brought to the Khandagiri police station and then taken to the commissionerate police headquarters here for interrogation on his role in the triple murder.

Commissioner Dr RK Sharma is himself leading the interrogation team. The commissioner, however, clarified that Bhubana had only been detained and not arrested yet.

“We will arrest him if we get some definite information about his involvement in the murder,” Sharma said.

A couple, Kalia Sahu and his wife Sukanti, and their neighbour Shanti Pati were found dead in a pool of blood in Lane No 4 of Bharatpur slum here on Tuesday afternoon.

A crack team was formed and a massive manhunt was launched to trace the accused. With his arrest today, the commissionerate police has heaved a sigh of relief.

Preliminary investigation had pointed to Bhabani’s involvement in the case as he was absconding since the incident, police said.

The Twin City Commissioner RP Sharma had revealed that several criminal cases are pending against the accused, grandson of deceased Shanti Pati.

“We strongly suspect that property dispute between Bhabani and the deceased couple – Kalia Sahu and Sukanti Sahu – led to the murder. We have found that Bhabani had married Kalia’s granddaughter, who committed suicide allegedly due to the torture by her husband. After her death, there is no one to share the property of Kalia Sahu. There were repeated fights between him and the Sahu couple over this and the accused used to threaten them to get that property,” Commissioner had told media persons.
