TTE pushes Odisha girl off train for ticketless travel

A girl was allegedly pushed off the train near Odisha’s Sambalpur Road (Fatak) station today by the train ticket examiner (TTE) for travelling without a valid ticket.

The victim girl has been identified as Rekha Nayak from Goudapada village in Rengali area of Angul district.

As per reports, the girl, along with her sister-in-law and some relatives, boarded the Sambalpur-bound Samaleswari Express at Rengali. They were going to Budharaja temple in Sambalpur to offer prayers at the Shaivaite shrine atop a hillock on the occasion of the second Monday of the holy Shravan month.

After some time, a woman TTE came and asked for tickets. When they were unable to produce valid tickets, the TTE imposed fine on them and asked them to pay it. But, they expressed their inability to pay the same following which an altercation ensued between the defaulters and the examiner. Soon after, the TTE asked them to get down at Khetrajpur Railway Station and accompany her to the office. However, after reaching the Fatak station, they refused to get down from the train.

As the train slowed down, the other members alighted amid chaos. The victim, however, fell down while getting down. She alleged that she was pushed from the train by the ticket examiner as a result of which she sustained injuries on her leg and body.

The family members have demanded stringent action against the TTE besides asking the Railways to bear the treatment expenses of the injured girl.

“After receiving the complaint, we have sought details from Railway officials. We have also spoken to the concerned TTE. Action would be taken against the wrongdoer after the inquiry,” DRM said.

Meanwhile, the girl has been admitted to VIMSAR, Burla with injuries. She has sustained injuries on her left leg and several parts on her body.
