82 persons booked for jumping institutional quarantine in Odisha

Berhampur: The Ganjam district police today registered two cases against as many as 82 persons for allegedly escaping from quarantine centres.

The Kodala police registered a case against 26 persons for absconding from a government quarantine facility at Adarsha Vidyala, Ragapur. Based on a complaint filed by Kodala Tahsildar the case was lodged under sections 188/269/270/271/294/506/ 34 IPC / r.w. 3 Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 / 51 D.M.Act.

This apart,the Kodala police registered a case against 56 persons on charges of absconding from a quarantine cat Janata Nodal High School, Beguniapada. The 56 persons were booked under sections 188/269/270/271/294/506/34 IPC/r.w 3 Epidemic Diseases Act,1897 / 51 D.M.Act.

The Ganjam police appealed Surat returnees to follow COVID-19 guidelines issued by the government scrupulously. Failing to adhere to the guidelines, stringent action will be taken against the violators.

As per information, more than 100 migrants had reportedly escaped from two quarantine centres in Beguniapada block of the district on May 3.

Similarly, the Tihidi police in Bhadrak District registered a case against six persons for allegedly violating social distancing norms in a quarantine centre and uploading the video on Tik Tok.

In Jharsuguda district, a case was registered against one person for absconding from a quarantine centre at BTM School. Based on the report of the Executive Officer Jharsuguda Municipality, the violator was booked under sections 188/269/270/271 of IPC.

During last 24 hours the Odisha Police has registered a total of four cases against returnees for violating quarantine norms or absconding from quarantine centre.
