Twin cities residents in trouble for violating SC directive on bursting crackers

Bhubaneswar: Violation of Supreme Court’s directive over bursting of crackers on Diwali proved costly for as many as 370 residents of twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack in Odisha.

Acting tough against the violators, the Twin City Commissionerate Police has lodged cases against 140 persons of the two cities for allegedly getting involved in bursting crackers before 8 pm and after 10 pm on Diwali yesterday, thereby violating the apex court’s order, said Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty.

This apart, fine of Rs 1.15 lakh has been collected from 230 persons (Rs 500 from each) for the violation, the official said.

The Supreme Court had on October 23 specified that on Diwali, firecrackers could be burst only between 8 pm and 10 pm.
