Twist in rape charges against Odisha cop: Victim takes U-Turn; denies for medical test

Puri: In a major twist in the rape allegation against Balanga police station ASI in Puri, the district SP today informed that the woman did not mention anything about the rape in her statement recorded before the Magistrate last night.

Moreover, she also also refused to undergo medical examination, SP Umashankar Dash said today. Meanwhile, ASI Chittaranjan Das has reportedly been suspended from his job following  the allegation.

Yesterday, the police recorded the statement of the woman before the Magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC. On January 2, the married woman had lodged a complaint with Pipili SDPO alleging that the ASI took her to his residence on the pretext of resolving a family dispute and later raped her. Acting on the complaint, the cops had detained Das and started an investigation.
