Two arrested for alleged abduction, gang rape of Odisha dalit woman

Kendrapara, July 15:

Police arrested two of the four accused persons for allegedly kidnapping and gangraping a married dalit woman of Badgaon village under Marshaghai police limits in Odisha’s Kendrapara district.

RAPEThe two arrested persons are the prime accused in the case- Saroj Mallick and Tukuna Mallick- said Sukant Patra, IIC, Marshaghai.

A 28 year old dalit woman was allegedly kidnapped and later gang-raped by at least four persons while she was in their captivity for about a week, reports said.

The victim, a married woman, was waylaid from near her in-laws’ house in Badagaon village under Marshaghai police station jurisdiction last week. However the incident came to light following the complaint lodged by the victim on Monday.

The offenders exploited the victim sexually at different locations during the week. Later, they freed her while warning her against making the matter public.

The victim, who mustered the courage to report the matter to the police, had named the four persons who have sexually abused her in her complaint, the police said.

The victim was medically examined and her statement was duly recorded on Monday, police said.
