Two arrested for gang rape of minor in Odisha capital

Commissionerate Police in Friday arrested two youths for allegedly gang raping a 14-year-old girl of IDCO basti in Saliasahi slum on April 1. The prime accused in the case, however, is still on the run.

The arrested accused have been identified as Bhagabat Murmu (21) and Dinabandhu Murmu (20), both original inhabitants of Mayurbhanj district who are at present staying in the same basti where the victim stays.

Sources in the police said a manhunt had been launched to arrest the prime accused, Siba Soren, who is still at large.

“Siba was in a relationship with the girl. He was in a compromising position when Bhagabat and Dinabandhu entered his room. All of them then took turns at raping the girl,” Mahila police sources said.

The duo was arrested on the basis of the complaint lodged by the girl’s mother.

A case has been registered at the Mahila police station slapping charges under section 376 (d) against the duo.

The accused were forwarded to a local court in the city on Friday afternoon.
