Two engineers knocked over by bus in Odisha capital; traffic hit

Bhubaneswar, Jan 29:

Vehicular traffic was hit along National Highway 5 passing through the Odisha capital on Thursday afternoon after two maintenance engineers of a water filter company were knocked over by an engineering college bus at the place in Baramunda where the CRP Square flyover ends.

The two have been rushed to Kalinga Hospital in a critical conition. Angry locals blocked vehicular traffic promtping police to divert traffic along the service roads.

The two engineers, identified as Santosh Barik (35) and Kamalakanta Sahoo (25), were returning from their office on a bike when the bus, carrying students of CV Raman Engineering College hit their two-wheeler from behind.

Eyewitnesses said the speeding bus dragged the bike to a distance of 200 meteres leaving Barik and Sahoo critically injured. The driver fled the scene while the panicky students also got off the vehicle. There were about 30 students in the bus when the mishap took place.

Irked locals blocked vehicular traffic demanding action against the erring driver. Palpable tension prevailed at the place and police rushed to the spot.

Barik, police said, belonged to Angul while Sahoo was a native of Boudh.
