Two killed, 8 injured as Puri-bound auto-rickshaw meets with accident in Jajpur

Jajpur: In a tragic incident, two persons were killed while eight others sustained critical injuries as an auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling to Puri met with an accident on NH-16 at Panikoili in Jajpur district, early this morning.

According to reports, ten members of three families were heading towards Puri in the ill-fated three-wheeler to visit the Shree Jagannath Temple. An unidentified vehicle hit the auto-rickshaw, killing the two on the spot and leaving eight others grievously injured.

The deceased were identified as Shivendra Mohapatra (11) of Bissam Cuttack and Puja Sahu (20) of Simulia area in Balasore district.

The injured ones were rescued and rushed to the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital while two of them were later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.

Police have recovered the bodies for post-mortem and started an investigation into the incident.
