Two killed as trainer aircraft crashes in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: A two-seater trainer aircraft crashed at Birasala airstrip in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district today killing a pilot trainer and a woman trainee pilot.

The deceased have been identified as Captain Sanjib Kumar Jha from Bihar, the trainer, and Anis Fatima, a woman trainee pilot from Tamil Nadu.

The mishap took place when flight training was underway near the airstrip. The Government Aviation Training Institute (GATI)-run aircraft crash-landed moments after taking off around 6.30 am.

The duo was rushed to the Kamakhyanagar hospital, where a doctor declared the two dead. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

Though the exact reason behind the crash was yet to be ascertained till last reports came in, Dhenkanal SP Anupama James said the aircraft might have developed some snag after it took off.
