Two low pressure areas may form over Bay of Bengal in 2 weeks

Bhubaneswar: The Bay of Bengal may host two cyclonic circulations/ low pressure areas in two weeks this month, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted.

There is likelihood of formation of cyclonic circulation/ low pressure area over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during week 1 (September 2 to 8) and week 2 (September 9 to 15), the IMD said in its North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis.

However, considering the model guidance and environmental features, it is inferred that no cyclogenesis (formation of depression) is likely over the North Indian Ocean during the period, the outlook added.

On the other hand, the Regional Meteorological Centre here has predicted heavy rainfall for several districts of Odisha from September 5.

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Kandhamal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on September 5.

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur on September 6.
