Two Maoists killed in exchange of fire with jawans in Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri: Two Maoists, including a woman, were killed during an exchange of fire with security forces in Gajalmamudi area of Swabhiman Anchal in Odisha’s Malkangiri district, said DGP Abhay today.

The incident took place when an operation by the SOG jawans was underway in the area. The extremists opened fire at the security forces, following which the jawans retaliated. Two Maoists were neutralized during the gunfight.

The security forces seized an INSAS rifle, one SLR rifle, ammunition, 3 Maoist kit bags, and other incriminating articles from the spot. Further search and combing operation have been intensified in the area after the incident.

Earlier, a woman Maoist had died during an exchange of fire with security forces near a village under Gochhapada police limits in Kandhamal district on December 11. Based on a reliable input, an operation was launched in the area by two units of SOG and DVF on December 9. During the course of operation, a group of Maoists opened fire at the security forces, following which the jawans retaliated.

The woman Maoist sustained bullet injuries in the gunfight and died. Two guns, four rounds of bullets, and Maoist articles were recovered from the spot by the security forces.
