A two member team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrived at Malkangiri today to conduct investigations into the role of the Maoists belonging to Kalimela Dalam in the May 25 Darbha Ghati carnage.

On Saturday 13 Maoists of this Dalam including a woman cadre were gunned down in a pre-dawn encounter in Silakuta forest under Bapanpali panchayat in Podia block in Malkangiri district by the state police who also managed to nab a local person for his suspected Maoist links.

The team with the assistance of the state police will investigate possible links of those killed with the Maoists involved in the May 25 attack on a Congress convoy near Darbha Ghati in neighbouring Bastar district of Chhattisgarh that killed senior party leaders V C Shukla, Mahendra Karma and 19 others.
