Two minor girls charred to death in Odisha

Two minor girls were charred to death and two others sustained grievous burn injuries in the wee hours today at a village in Odisha’s Khurda district.

According to reports, a major fire broke out in a thatched house at around 1 am at Kela Sahi village in Harirajpur area under Jatni police station limits in the district.

While two minor girls were charred to death, two others sustained grievous burn injuries.

The deceased siblings have been identified as Boula and Subhadra. The injured have been admitted to District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Khurda.

“We got information at about 1.15 am about the fire mishap at Kela Sahi village. By the time we reached the spot, the blaze had engulfed the house as a result of which it wasn’t possible to rescue the two girls. Fire tenders were called in who doused the fire. The fire could have been caused due to mosquito coil or lamp,” Harirajpur police station outpost Bidyadhar Bhol said.

The girls’ mother Das Laxmi Das and grandfather were injured in the mishap.

“I was in sleep when the mishap took place. When I came to know about it, I rushed out. However, I fell unconscious. I could not save my girls,” a weeping Das Laxmi Das said.
