Two minor girls trying to pluck water lilies for Kumar Purnami festival were drowned while another girl was seriously injured while trying to save them, in Kendrapada district of Odisha, today.

The festival turned gloomy for the Deuli village under Pattamundai block, after two minor girls drowned in the pond after they slipped and their legs got entwined in the lily vines in the bottom of water body.

The deceased are 8 year-old Subhadra Behera a class 2 student and a class 4 student, 10 year-old Pujarani Behera.

Another girl, 17 years old Manjulata, who had jumped into the pond trying to save the girls from drowning was injured while trying to save the duo.
