Two more farmers commit suicide in Odisha

Koraput/ Bolangir, Nov 7:

Adding to the rising numbers, two more farmers committed suicide in Odisha’s Bolangir and Koraput districts today.

Laba Harijan, a farmer of Bhejaguda village under Jeypore block in Koraput district had consumed poison yesterday due crop loss and debt burden.

He was admitted to a hospital in Jeypore but died while undergoing treatment.

Another farmer Gurubaru Sahoo from Jamajuri village in Belapada block of Patnagarh has died today after consuming poison due to crop loss and debt burden.

Sahoo had drunk pesticide yesterday as he was worried about rising debt burden; he was admitted to Patnagarh Hospital but could not be saved.

“We had cultivated 5-6 acres of land after taking loans, crops failed and afraid of the loan repayment burden, he consumed poison,” said Bhumisuta Sahoo, wife of deceased Gurubaru.
