Two more infants die in Cuttack Sishu Bhavan; toll 30

The infant death toll in Sishu Bhavan in Odisha’s Cuttack city mounted to 30 with the death of two more infants today.

newborn babyOf the two deceased infant children, one belongs to Puri while the other belongs to Balaramprasad village in Angul district.

Meanwhile, an inquiry committee, led by the Director, Medical Education and Training (DMET) Prakash Chandra Mohapatra arrived at Sishu Bhawan here today to probe the spate of infant deaths in the premier chidrne’s hospital in the last six days. The committee will submit its report to the state government in 10 days.

The inquiry committee has a senior paediatric specialist of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar as an expert member.

“We had an on-the-spot investigation. We visited each ward and examined the beds where the infants had died. We now examining the admission tickets and other documents,” said Dr Siddharth Das, principal, SCB Medical College and Hospital, one of the members of the committee.

“The life of every child is vital for us. We will take appropriate action basing on the report of the Committee,” Health and Family Welfare minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak told the media here today after reviewing infrastructural facilities at the hospital.
