23-yr-old youth among two crushed under wheels in Odisha

Balasore/Kalahandi: Despite strict enforcement drives under the revised traffic rules, there seems to be no let-up in road accident deaths in Odisha. Reportedly, speed driving claimed life of two persons, including a 23-year-old youth, in Balasore and Kalahandi districts late last night.

As per the reports, Santosh Rout (23), a resident of Patrapada here, was killed and his friend riding pillion critically injured in a brutal road accident near Gouduni Pokhari under Khantapada police limits in the district. The incident occurred at around 1 AM, when a speeding truck lost control and rammed into their bike from behind. The duo along with few other friends was returning to Balasore from Soro. The truck driver immediately fled the spot with his vehicle following the mishap. Soon after, an ambulance was called in and the duo was rushed to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). While Santosh was declared brought dead by doctors, his friend is undergoing treatment at the hospital in critical condition.

After receiving information, a police team reached the accident spot, seized the truck and began an inquiry into the incident.
