Two newborns named after Cyclone Yaas in Odisha

Balasore/Kendrapara: Even as Cyclone Yaas was ravaging north coastal districts of Odisha yesterday, two babies, who were born during the calamity, have been named after the cyclonic storm.

According to reports, Sonali Maiti, wife of Badal Maiti of Parakhi area under Sadar block of Balasore district, gave birth to a baby boy, yesterday evening. Family members of the newborn have named him ‘Yaas’.

Similarly, Saraswati Bairagi, wife of Soumya Ranjan Bairagi of Harinapokhari village under Rajnagar block of Kendrapara district, delivered a baby girl during the cyclone while the infant has been named after the cyclone.

Worth mentioning, the state government had shifted pregnant women of the vulnerable areas to cyclone shelters and nearest hospitals before the storm.
