Two Odisha cops arrested for leopard hide trade

Deogarh: In what could be said as a blot on khaki, two police personnel were today arrested in connection with seizure of leopard skin last month in Odisha’s Deogarh district.

The Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch arrested a jail warder Rashmi Ranjan Mishra and a Havildar Likul Kumar Sahu for their alleged complicity in the illegal trade.

With this, the total number of arrests has risen to nine.

Mishra posted at Rourkela Special Jail and Sahu at IRBN, Deogarh.

The STF busted the smuggling racket on June 20 with arrest of three persons. A seven-foot leopard skin was seized from their possession. Two days later, as many persons were arrested.

Later on June 23, Deogarh SDJM court had allowed the investigators to take three persons on remand. The intense interrogation has yielded results with arrest of two accused today.
