Two train robbers arrested; stolen articles seized

Government Railway Police (GRP), Bhubaneswar today arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in looting a person on a train. The two have several cases pending against them at various GRP stations in Odisha.

The accused, identified as Kailash Behera (25) alias Papu of Gate Bazaar in Ganjam district and Mohammed Amir (24) of Puruna Bazar in Keonjhar district, were staying at Manguli Chhack under Chawdwar police limits in Cuttack district. Both were forwarded to the court today.

According to IIC GRP Soubhagya Kumar Swain, the looters were nabbed while committing theft in 12663 Howrah-Tiruchirapalli Express at 11.30 pm yesterday. As the train coming from Howrah side halted at platform number- 4 of Bhubaneswar railway station, the accused persons suddenly entered the S-8 coach of the train and committed theft of articles of passenger Pradip Pakrey, son of Bholanath Pakrey of Sardarpada in Bardhaman district of West Bengal, the IIC added quoting the statement of the accused during interrogation.

“We have recovered articles like Voter-I-Card, cash of Rs 1350, train ticket, clothes and more importantly educational and caste certificates of Pradip from the accused,” said Swain. Intimation had been sent to the victim to come and get their articles from GRP, Bhubaneswar, he added.

“We have slapped charges under section 379, 34 of IPC against the accused, involved in multiple cases of GRP,” he said.
