As per information provided by the cops, the uncle and aunt of the girl are the prime accused in this case. They, however, were assisted by two others. Both her uncle and aunt have gone missing after the incident came to light.

The incident happened on July 29, when the minor girl Rita, daughter of Labaneswar Bindhani, was sleeping at her uncle Shantanu Bindhani’s house. She was unable to speak after her aunt Binodini made her sniff a flower that night. Another two men – identified as mason Chitta from Daspalla area and his assistant Bulu – later arrived at the spot and assisted by her uncle and aunty took her away to a nearby forest.

The incident came to fore after her father Labaneshwar was unable to get any satisfactory answer from her uncle about her whereabouts. The matter reached the cops after a local Aanganwadi worker named Gitanjali Behera reported the incident to Kandhamal Child Helpline.

A FIR was lodged with Khajuripada police and the girl was subsequently rescued four days later in an unconscious condition from the attic of a villager named Rabindra Pradhan. She was admitted to the Phulbani District Headquarters Hospital and after getting better yesterday, she revealed the entire plot of her kidnapping and sacrifice plan.

Based on the complaint, the cops have lodged a case numbered 83/2015 and have detained Bulu. The investigations are on, said SDPO Pravat Kumar Panigrahy.
