Undertrial prisoner dies after being attacked by inmate in Odisha jail

Balasore: An undertrial prisoner died after being allegedly attacked by another inmate inside the jail here today.

The deceased was identified as Ramachandra Das. He was lodged at the Balasore Jail four days ago.

The reason behind the attack on him is yet to be ascertained.

According to reports, Ramachandra was attacked by another inmate identified as Sharat Giri, who was serving the life sentence, with a brick inside the jail in the morning. He suffered haemorrhage in the incident.

The jail authorities rushed the profusely bleeding victim to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. The doctors attending to him referred to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

However, the undertrial prisoner died while being shifted to the SCB for treatment.
