UNICEF to organise webinar on climate change, water security in Odisha on Dec 2

Bhubaneswar: UNICEF is going to organize a webinar on ‘Action for Climate Change and Water Security in Odisha’ on December 2.

The webinar will be live from 2.30 pm to 3.00 pm on Friday where Turtle man of Odisha’ – Rabindranath Sahu, Satyabrata Samal, Lala Niranjan Prasad Ray and Rabindranath Sahu will share their experiences and draw a roadmap towards overcoming the challenge. The session will be moderated by Sourav Pati.

Rabindranath Sahu: The turtle man of Odisha

Worth mentioning, Odisha is the third most climate change impacted state in the country with high vulnebrability to weather events, sea level rise, floods and droughts. Thereby, it also threatens the environmental ecosystem in the state that is home to several endangered species including Olive Ridley turtles and Irrawady dolphins.

Satyabrata Samal, panelist

For the last 25 years, Rabindranath Sahu from Purunabandha village in Ganjam district has been relentlessly working for safety of the turtles during their annual visit to the coasts. Similarly, Satyabrata Samal, a climate activist, leads a team of over 1000 ploggers who have conducted over 300 plogging events. The other panelist, Lala Niranjan Prasad Ray is also advocates for environment protection.

Notably, all the panelists are Youth4Water members – a UNICEF campaign to make youth change leaders in climate change, environment and WASH.
