Bhubaneswar, May 2:

Pandemonium continues to disrupt the proceedings of Odisha Assembly over Justice MM Das’ remarks as Opposition members today demanded his resignation forcing repeated adjournments.

As soon as the House started, Opposition BJP and Congress legislators rushed to the well of the House and demanded ouster of Justice MM Das as Chairman of Chit Fund Commission over his remarks on refund of money to chit fund investors during a programme organised by ruling party’s legal front on the occasion of Madhusudan Das’ birth anniversary.

The BJP members displayed posters in the form of saffron ‘gowns’ with “Minister Sanjay Das Burma involved in chit fund scam should resign” and “We demand ouster of Justice MM Das for conspiring to let off chit fund scam accused” written on it.

“We have raised chit fund probe panel head Justice MM Das and Minister Sanjay Das Burma’s issues. Neither Das has resigned nor has government published any advertisement regarding his replacement. We have been demanding discussion on this. The Speaker has given a ruling against this which can be reversed,” Opposition Chief Whip Taraprasad Bahinipati said.

The saffron party also shouted slogans in the Assembly on these lines.

“We had demanded a ruling from the Speaker on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s reply over Justice MM Das issue for which we had cooperated in running the House on Saturday. However, Speaker Niranjan Pujari did not give any ruling. For this, we have again made this an issue. We demand the dismissal of Justice Das and the resignation of Sanjay Das Burma for his involvement in chit fund scam. We have again demanded a ruling from the Speaker on government’s clarification on these,” Pradeep Purohit, BJP legislator said.

The ruling party, however, termed the Opposition demand as politicising the issues.

“The Opposition is creating an unhealthy tradition by repeatedly disrupting the House proceedings. They are raising these issues to get political mileage out of it and have deviated from the main issues. Our focus is how the duped investors will get back their money and the scamsters get punished,” BJD spokesperson Amar Prasad Satapathy said.

Following the ruckus in the House, the Speaker first adjourned the Assembly till 12.30 pm and then till 3.00 pm.

It may be recalled that the Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes on Friday and Saturday over Justice Das’ remarks.
