Use modern tech during probe to increase conviction rate: Odisha CM to cops

Bhubaneswar: Raising concern over low conviction rate in Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik calls the police to use modern technology during investigation, so that the conviction rate could be higher.

Addressing the valedictory programme of the 63rd Senior Police Officers’ Conference, 2021 in Bhubaneswar, Patnaik asked the officers to focus primarily on cases pertaining to crime against women and children.

“Any complaint received in this regard should be attended as per law immediately with empathy. Special wing in Odisha Police to look after offences against women and children should provide leadership in this field,” Patnaik added.

He also expressed concern over increasing road mishaps and said, “There is an urgent need to take up preventive and innovative steps to reduce the death in accidents.”

The Chief Minister further announced Rs 1,000 crores will be spent on police buildings with special emphasis on housing for the police personnel over the next five years.

He paid homage to the 61 police personnel who lost their lives while performing duty as Covid Warriors and assure support to their families.

The Chief Minister expressed happiness over the law and order situation in the State while terming the situation as ‘peaceful’ in 2021.

“There was a further significant improvement in the Left Wing Extremism situation as a result this year five districts i.e. Angul, Boudh, Deogarh, Nayagarh and Sambalpur have been declared as LWE free,” he added.

Among others, Chief Secretary Suresh Mahapatra, DGP Abhay, Principal Secretary Home and DGP designate Sunil Bansal were present at the IPS officers’ conference.
