Utkal varsity in Odisha capital comes under CCTV surveillance

In a bid to ensure security for the students at the Utkal University, the varsity authorities have decided to install CCTV cameras on the campus premises.captureThe chairman of PG council Prof. Ranjan Kumar Bal said, “We have been planning to install the CCTV cameras since long, but for the time being we are installing four cameras at the main gate, and afterwards we will focus to install rest of the cameras in front of each PG department.”

The instruction was issued recently due to rising cases of the clash between two student groups. Sources said, non students are creating nuisance after entering the university and the hostel regularly.

During the election time, they enter various PG departments and support different candidates.

It has been decided that four CCTV cameras will be installed at the main gate before declaration of the election date. Entry of students and non students will be monitored as well.

It has been further planned to install CCTV cameras at gate no 2 and 3 within a month. Besides, the cameras will be installed at boy’s hostel, ladies hostel, library and administrative buildings. A unit will be formed for operation of the CCTV cameras.
