Vedanta Aluminium observes National Safety Week 2023 in Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, observed National Safety Week 2023 in and around its operations at Jharsuguda through a week-long campaign to raise awareness among employees, business partners, and community members on the importance of adhering to safety measures.

In line with the theme ‘Our Aim – Zero Harm’, the company carried out a slew of awareness programs on theimportance of observing safety precautions and protocols. Through these efforts, the company reached out to more than 2400 people in the district as part of the campaign.

As part of the campaign, the company carried out initiatives underscoring the importance of safety, which included a community bike rally,quizzes, skit competitions, eye check-ups for Heavy Motor Vehicle drivers and health camps for business partners. These were bolstered by safety training sessions for community members at Purna village, Jharsuguda. A special initiative involving the company’s business partners – ‘Ghar Se Ghar Tak’& ‘Suraksha Kutumbh’ was also conducted to ensure safety awareness among families of the company’s business partners. A blood donation camp organized on the occasion saw employees and business partners donate over 100 units of blood, which were provided to the Jharsuguda District Blood Bank.

The week-long celebration concluded with a ceremony in the presence of Manoj Mishra, Assistant Director of Factories & Boilers, Jharsuguda, where plant safety champions and winners of the various safety competitionsheld as part of Safety Week were felicitated.

Vedanta Aluminium is committed to building a safe workplace and community by continually enhancing its Safety Management Systems with advanced technologies and robust processes. The company has implemented several safety initiatives, including Suraksha Sankalp – a Safety Culture Transformation Programme, Agnivahini – an all-women fire-fighting team, regular Safety Stand-downs on the plant shopfloor, safety awareness sessions & training sessions for students and community members, and mock-drill sessions in association with specialist bodies such as the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA).
