Vedanta Foundation opens computer literacy centre at Odisha’s Kalahandi

Sesa Sterlite, formerly Vedanta Alumina Limited, in association with Vedata Foundation today opened a job-oriented free computer literacy center at Jodabandh in Kalahandi.

The corporate philanthropy intends to train jobless youth and develop their skills so as to make them self reliant.

“Company has always been trying to enhance the skills of the youths and students by imparting computer education to them which will contribute towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious ‘Digital India’mission,” Sesa Sterlite COO, K K Dave said.

This will be helpful to the local youths for a better livelihood, Dr.Lona Nayak, CEO-Vedanta Foundation expressed.

It may be mentioned here that earlier the foundation had opened nine computer centers at Rayagada and Kalahandi districts where around 1200 students were enrolled in the free training programme. After successful completion of the courses, majority of the students have been employed in government and private sector units at a monthly salary ranging from Rs 3000-Rs 5000, a foundation member said.

During inauguration, Jalaj Malpani, CFO (SSL), Alka Minj, Sidhartha Behera, Pallavi Bose, Tapaswini Ray, Tapas Patnaik, Gagan Patra, and Laxmidhar Santosray were present. The center has been opened at Jodabandh community center with the help of Sri Chaitanya Yuvak Sangh.

Besides, eight-day SCSA Knock out Football Tournament also kicked off at Jodabandh.

Inaugurating the rural sporting event, K K Dave COO, Sesa Sterlite said, “Such type of tournaments will help towards bringing the local talents to the national level. This will contribute towards the physical and mental development of individuals.”

In the inaugural match, Chandanpur won against Dangajhore in 3-0 goals. The tournament has been organized by Sri Chaitanya Sanskrutik Anusthan and around 08 teams are participating.

Apart from other senior dignitaries of Vedanta Foundation and others, Jalaj Malpani, CFO SSL, Binod Rath, SSL, Gobind Pradhani, Er Fakir Majhi, Ranjan Sharma, Head CSR (SSL) were present.
