Vehicle lifting gang busted in Odisha capital; diploma student among 4 held

Bhubaneswar:  Busting a vehicle lifting gang, the Commissionerate Police  today seized nine  motorcycles and a Hywa truck and arrested four youths, including  a Diploma student in this connection.

Following several complaints of motorcycle theft in Bhubaneswar, a special squad was formed involving officials of different police stations to nab the culprits. During investigation, the cops seized nine motorcycles and a Hywa truck, besides arresting two accused and two receivers of the stolen  property.  The cops also sized four mobile phones from their possession.

Sharing the Modus Operandi, the CP said the culprits moved in a car in different areas, including  Ganjam, Khordha, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Anugul and Dhenkanal and stole the vehicles finding opportunities.

During  the investigation, police arrested the two accused- Susanta Patra alias Bunty (23) of Banki and Sahil Jani (23), a native of Mission Compound in Koraput district  currently staying in Banra under Banki police limits in Cuttack district . Besides two receivers of the theft vehicles identified as Biju Patra (19) of Banra village under Banki police station and Pruthwiraj Pradhan (25) of Nilakanthapur under Bhuban police limits in Dhenkanal district were arrested.

Police said arrested Bunty is involved in 10 cases lodged in various police stations in different districts while Sahil is  involved in five cases at different police stations under the Commissionerate Police.

Further investigation is underway in this connection.
