Vehicle looters’ gang busted in Odisha; kingpin among 3 held

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate police cracked the series of vehicles looting cases in the state capital with arrest of two including kingpin from Midnapore in West Bengal. A juvenile of the robbers’ gang was also detained in this connection.

The arrested persons were identified as Sheikh Rulamin, the kingpin, and his aide Sheikh Mujibur , both hail from Midnapore.

While two have been forwarded to the court, the juvenile was sent to the correctional home.

According to reports, Sheikh Rulamin and Sheikh Mujibur were using the juvenile for stealing the vehicles. Rulamin was supplying the theft bikes to West Bengal and Mujubar was engaged in selling those in Kharagpur area.

The cops managed to recover 3 vehicles from West Bengal. The more number of theft vehicles will be retrieved on basis of the information following interrogation, said Kharavela Nagar Police IIC Biswa Ranjan Senapati.

The arrest came following a complaint by Subash Chandra Mahabhoi of Begunia area was lodged at the Kharavela Nagar police station on May 31 a day after his bike was stolen in front of a bank at Janpath in Bhubaneswar.

Based on the complaint, the police verified the CCTV footages of the bank and found a juvenile was stealing the bike. Acting promptly, the cops reached the accused following which the entire racket was busted.

A special team of police left for Midnapore to nab the prime accused and seized three theft vehicles including the complainant’s bike.
