Verdict after 16 years: Odisha court sentences five to life for abducting minor
Jeypore: A local court in Odisha’s Koraput today sentenced five accused to life imprisonment for abducting a minor girl for ransom in 2002.
While pronouncing the quantum of punishment, Koraput District Judge here today awarded life sentence to five convicts, while three others were acquitted due to want of evidence.
There were nine accused in the case. While one has died, eight others were tried for the crime.
It may be mentioned here that a four-year-old girl was kidnapped from Koraput while she was on her way home after attending nursery school in 2002.
Victim’s father, the then District Telecom Manager Rajasekhar, received a ransom call of Rs 20 lakh to secure her release owing which he filed an FIR with the local police. After three days of frantic search, the minor was rescued from a forest between Koraput and Jeypore.
The incident had taken place in December 2002.
