Victim of gang-rape seeks help of Odisha police to nab culprits

A 20-year-old woman from Sakhigopal in Odisha’s Puri district today knocked at the door of the Mahila police station here seeking its intervention in arresting the culprits who had allegedly subjected her to gang-rape in two separate incidents.Rape_1

The victim today lodged a complaint with the Mahila Police station stating that she was gang-raped twice by some persons.

According to her complaint, Endua, a youth from victim’s village had taken her from his uncle Laxmidhar Pradhan’s house to Hyderabad on June 19 after giving the latter an assurance to get her a job with good salary.

The victim had been staying with uncle after the death of her parents.

Endua, who works as a labour contractor, dropped the girl in a milk processing plant in Hyderabad where she worked for one and half months. During her work at the plant, she was allegedly gang-raped by five persons. After the incident she somehow managed to reach Bhubaneswar railway station by train, she said in her complaint.

Her woes did not end there. She was picked up by one Panchua who promised to offer help and shelter. She was taken to Panchua’ s residence in Bhubaneswar where she was subjected to gang-rape by Panchua and two of his friends.

The victim was rescued by a woman , who left her in Malisahi under the Kharvela Nagar police limits.

Finally, thanks to the support  from some Asha workers and social activists, the victim  today filed an FIR requesting the Mahila police to investigate into the matter and arrest the culprits.

However, the Mahila police said they are facing difficulty in interrogating the victim as she appeared mentally disturbed and her health condition is also not normal. The investigation can begin only after the victim’s health condition improves, they said.

Meanwhile the Mahila police have got  a medical examination of the victim done at at Capital Hospital here.
