Visakhapatnam-Koraput passenger train stranded as tree falls on it near Odisha’s Rayagada

Bhubaneswar: The Visakhapatnam-Koraput passenger (No. 08546) got stranded near Rayagada station in Odisha after a tree uprooted by the Nor’wester rain fell on the train today afternoon.

“The train left Rayagada station at 2.13 pm. The loco pilot was forced to stop the train as a tree uprooted due to Nor’wester fell on the train engine and a few of its coaches at 2.22 pm,” said a source.

Senior officials of Indian Railways rushed to the spot and took steps to remove the uprooted tree, sources said.

Notably, the Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express got stranded in Jajpur district of Odisha a few days ago when a tree uprooted by the Nor’wester fell on the train.

The front glass of the indigenously-developed semi high speed train got damaged in the incident. Besides, the train also developed some other minor glitches. Moreover, the overhead power cables got snapped due to the Nor’wester, sources said.
