Burla: In a significant development in Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) student Chinmayee Priyadarshini Sahu death case, police have filed murder case against two persons including her male friend Pritiman Dey.
A case under Sections 302, 201 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against Pritiman of BJB Nagar in Bhubaneswar and Manas Tudu, a final year student of VSSUT.
The two accused and another student of VSSUT were detained by police for questioning in connection with the death incident.
While the body of Chinmayee was being recovered by police, the third accused was present at the spot and telling someone over mobile phone to delete Facebook account. As SDPO Satyabrata Das heard it, the police official seized the student’s mobile phone and took him to Burla police station for questioning, reports said.
Chinmayee had come to VSSUT to receive her educational certificate on the occasion of convocation ceremony on February 28. Later, she went to the power channel bridge here with her friend in the evening.
As she went missing after falling into the power channel from the bridge, police and Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and initiated a search operation to trace her. Her body was recovered near the power channel, next morning.
“The body bore marks on neck. My daughter was strangled to death. There was involvement of a youth and others in the murder of my daughter,” said the deceased’s mother who lodged a complaint in this regard with police.
“I had telephoned my daughter at around 9 PM. As the call was received, I heard an unusual sound similar to that of a person getting choked. I disconnected the call and telephoned her again. I heard the same sound during the second call too. Later, we were informed that she jumped into the power channel,” the woman said.
The deceased’s sister said Pritiman was residing near Chinmayee’s rented house in Bhubaneswar.
Further probe by police was underway.
