[Watch] Classic Odia song ‘Phula Rasia Re’ by iconic singer Sandhya Mukherjee

Bhubaneswar: Demise of legendary singer Sandhya Mukherjee might have created a void in Bengali classical music, it is also a huge loss for Odisha as the music maestro had left her mark in Odia music.

The Bengali singer had sung several Odia film songs including ‘Phula Rasia Re’ creating a distinguished place among hearts of classical music lovers.

Mukherjee shot to fame in Odia music industry through her evergreen masterpiece ‘Phula Rasia Re’ in the movie ‘Shree Loknanth’ released in the year 1960. She became household name in Odisha after release of the song written by Narasingha Mohapatra and composed by Balakrushna Dash.

She had also lent her voice to popular lyrics including ‘Bakula Bane Kuhu Kuhu Tane’ and Au Chanda Lagi Kumuda’ in the film ‘Lakshmi’, ‘Mora Mana Sina Kehi Janena’ and ‘Jaga Barada Go’ in the film ‘Mahalakshmi Puja’ and ‘Libhi Libhi Jaye Akhi Luha’ in the award winning film ‘Kaa’ during her career in Odia music.

The singer left for the heavenly abode at an age of 90 years. She passed away in Kolkata after a brief illness following Covid-19. In her career spanning several decades, the singer had won several awards, including the National Film Award for the Best Female Playback Singer award.
