[Watch] Odisha CM appeals people to achieve ‘zero COVID infection’ target

Bhubaneswar: In view of resurgence of Coronavirus in other parts of country, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today appealed to people of the State to adhere to COVID protocol and achieve ‘zero infection’ target in battle against the deadly virus.

Addressing the State people, he said, “With your support, the COVID situation is currently under control in Odisha. Even the World Health Organisation (WHO) has praised State’s initiatives in fight against Coronavirus. Although, single-day spike in COVID cases is below 100, zero infection is our target.”

“Self-satisfaction is not accepted in case of disease. Because, the risk is yet to get over,” Patnaik stressed in his video message.

He said that the COVID situation in some States including Maharashtra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh has been worsened due to significant rise in infections. In high-risk State Maharashtra, the lockdown has been enforced in some cities.

“The lockdown agony is still fresh in our mind. It has severely affected our economy, social life, education and almost all the sectors. The normalcy has returned to the State due to people’s sacrifice and cooperation. Nobody want that lockdown to return again. Therefore, the only way to avoid such situation is ‘awareness’. If we stay alert, the lockdown situation will never arise,” the CM said urging the citizens to continue to follow COVID guidelines strictly and achieve the target of zero infection.

Speaking about ongoing COVID vaccination drive, he said that the inoculation programme is underway in the State. He sought cooperation from people in making the massive vaccination programme successful.

Remembering the sacrifice of COVID warriors of the State, Patnaik said, “We have lost many lives in battle against Coronavirus. The tears rolled down from eyes of kin of deceased persons are not dried up. We will never let their sacrifice go in vain. By remaining alert is the greatest tribute to COVID warriors.”
