Watch Video: Miscreants loot Bhubaneswar jewellery shop, fire at owner

Bhubaneswar: In a broad daylight heist, two unidentified miscreants allegedly looted ornaments worth around Rs 20 lakh from a jewellery shop in Janla area on the outskirts of Odisha capital today and opened fire at the owner. Fortunately, the victim escaped unhurt.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV camera.

According to reports, the robbery took place around noon when the two accused arrived at the spot on a motorcycle. They immediately entered the shop and sprayed chemical on the face of its owner.

After looting the valuables, they threatened the shopkeeper at gunpoint and later fired at him as he tried to stop the duo from fleeing the spot on the two-wheeler. Though the wrongdoers initially struggled to start the motorcycle, they later managed to escape with the vehicle.

“The looters sprayed chemical on my face, following which I experienced severe irritation in my eyes. While they were trying to decamp, I tried to intercept them by hitting them with a bamboo. One of them opened fire at me. They have looted jewelleries worth around Rs 20 lakh from my shop. I no more feel safe to open the shop and have decided to close it forever,” the victim said.

Police have seized the hard drive containing the CCTV footage and initiated an investigation into the incident. Efforts were on to identify and nab the looters.
