Water level of Hirakud reservoir in Odisha touches optimum mark

Burla, Sept 30:

Water level of the Hirakud reservoir at Burla in Odisha’s Sambalpur district touched its optimum mark at 630 feet on Monday.

According to the dam authorities, water level of the reservoir which stood at 629.95 feet by 9 PM on Sunday touched 630 feet by 9 AM on Monday.

While the inflow of water to the reservoir was 52,000 cusecs, the dam authorities had opened one gate for the release of water.

With the less inflow of water later in the day, the authorities closed the sluice gate.

Sources in the dam control room said the inflow and outflow of the dam water was 25,000 cusecs by 9 PM.

As per the rule curve, the water level of the reservoir should touch optimum mark by September 30 or October 1.

However, this year, water level of the dam has touched the optimum mark a day before the rule curve specification.
