Weapons seized in Kashmir’s Baramulla

Srinagar, March 29:

Army troops recovered an AK-47 rifle and some ammunition during searches in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district Saturday after a patrol party was fired upon by guerrillas, said a defence spokesman.

“Army today (Saturday) recovered an AK-47 rifle, along with magazine and ammunition in Palhalan area of Baramulla,” he said.

According to the spokesman, at about 8.30 a.m., some unidentified gunmen fired upon the road opening party (ROP) – patrols moved to secure highways for army convoys or VIP movements – near New Colony in Palhalan village, 45 km from Srinagar on the busy Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road. No one was injured.

“The army troops did not fire back to avoid collateral damage… this being a residential area. However, the troops cordoned the suspected area and carried out searches.

“Reinforcements were also rushed to the incident site to beef up the strength.

“During the search, forces recovered am AK-47 rifle, along with one magazine and nine rounds of AK ammunition hidden under a pile of wood,” he said, adding searches were on till late evening.
