Weather Update: Low pressure intensifies, more rain across Odisha likely

Bhubaneswar: The low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well marked low pressure area which is likely to trigger heavy rainfall across Odisha during the next 48 hours.

“The low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining West Bengal and Odisha coasts has become well marked low pressure area and lies over the same region with associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to concentrate into a depression during next 48 hours and move west northwestwards,” a bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Under its impact, heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at one or two places over the coastal districts of Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and Kandhamal with extremely heavy rainfall over Ganjam and Puri today, the Regional Meteorological Centre predicted.

Similarly, on July 21, heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Sonepur and Ganjam with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur and heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over rest districts of Odisha, the Meteorological Centre forecasted.
