Weather Update: Puri among 9 Odisha districts on heavy rain alert from Oct 19

Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre here today issued Yellow and Orange warnings for nine districts in Odisha, including Puri  in view of the fresh low pressure likely to form over Central Bay of Bengal around October 19.

As per the latest bulletin issued by the MeT Centre, a low pressure area is likely to form over central Bay of Bengal around October 19 and may become more marked during subsequent 24 hours.

“Under its influence, enhance rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some districts of Odisha between October 19 and 21,” the bulletin reads.

The MeT Centre has issued heavy rainfall warning for nine districts- Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Koraput, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada and Malkangiri during the period.

From 8.30 AM on October 19 till 8.30 AM of October 20

Yellow Warning:

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati.

Besides, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur many places over the
districts of south Odisha, north Coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts of north Odisha.

From 8.30 AM on October 20 till 8.30 AM of October 21

Orange Warning: 

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Ganjam and Gajapati

This apart, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of south coastal Odisha and at many places  over the districts of north coastal Odisha and south  interior Odisha and at a few places over the districts north interior Odisha.

Yellow Warning:

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Puri.

From 8.30 AM on October 21 till 8.30 AM of October 22

Yellow Warning:

Heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada,  Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Bhadrak.

On the day, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to ccur at most places over the districts of coastal Odisha and at many places over the districts of south interior Odisha and at a few places over the districts north interior Odisha.

The MeT centre has advised fishermen not to venture into the deep sea areas of Central Bay of Bengal on October 19 and 20 as squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is likely to prevail over central Bay of Bengal due to likely formation of the low pressure area.
