Website of Kalinga Lancer Hockey launched

The website of Kalinga Lancer Hockey was launched by chief secretary JK Mohapatra at the State Secretariat conference hall here on Friday. The prime objective of the website is to promote and develop hockey activities in the State.

The website www.kalingalancers.com has been linked to social media like Twitter and Facebook. It also provides online booking of the tickets. Through the website, any person can avail all the details about the matches, sponsorship, list of players with their respective expertise etc.kalinga_lancers

Briefing newsmen later, secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs Saswat Mishra said for the first time in India, Odisha has taken the initiative to launch a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) under the name Odisha Sports Development & Promotion Company and has acquired 6th Franchise of Hockey India League (HIL) at an estimated cost of Rs 12 crore.

The SPV has been formed in partnership of Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha (IDCO), Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) and other industrial houses, he informed.

In the second edition of the HIL, five matched will be played at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from January 28 to February 14.

The Kalinga Lancer team consists of 14 Indian players and 10 International players. Four players from Odisha are part of the team.

Hockey India coach Terry Walsh has been engaged as the chief coach of the team.

While the Indian players have arrived in Bhubaneswar and started practice at Kalinga Stadium from today, the foreign players are scheduled to arrive on January 20.

The first match will be played in Bhubaneswar on January 28.

The League match will be played on February 16 at Mumbai. The semi-final and final matches would be held at Ranchi on February 22 and 23 respectively.
