The Odisha government heaved a sigh of relief as the West Bengal government finally relaxed its week-long ban on export of potato to the state for a week- from August 17 to 23.
Mamata BanerjeeThe decision of the West Bengal government to this effect came after chief minister Mamata Banerjee, in a high-level meeting on Wednesday, directed the task force to release 5,000 tonnes of potato per day to Odisha following special request by chief minister Naveen Patnaik, the state Agriculture minister Purnendu Bose told reporters in Kolkata.

Bose, however, said that the chief minister has cautioned not to release any potato beyond the quantity specified to these states until normalcy is restored in West Bengal.

Nearly 400 potato-laden trucks carrying 6,500 tonnes have been seized in last four days, Bose said, adding that the potato price is more or less under control in the state. The seized potato is being made available to the people through regular outlets, he added.
