West Bengal loot gang busted, nine women arrested in Odisha Capital

Since the last few days, they were staying at various lodges on rent and stealing items from various malls in the city.

Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown, Nayapalli police claimed to have busted a robbery gang operating in the Capital by arresting nine women in this connection.

The accused are Labuni Samandar (34), Sukla Banik (30), Manjari Chakraborty (32), Amrita Roy(40), Baisakhi Mirdha (23), Putul Dev Mohanty (35),  Malaty Das (34), Rupa Mirdha (32) and Mousumi Dutta (31), all from North 24 Parganas in West Bengal.

As per reports, since the last few days, they were staying at various lodges on rent and stealing items from various malls in the city. The women were going to the malls and stealing apparel cosmetics and other things by tucking the items under their clothes. They then used to leave the spot before being caught.

The theft came to the fore after seven women of the gang were apprehended by police for alleged theft at a mall in Nayapalli area of the city on May 31st. After the matter was reported, police carried out investigation and nabbed them along with two others. They also recovered consumer goods, cosmetics, food items and other products from  their possession, all of which were shoplifted from Reliance Smart Bazaar outlet in Krishna Plaza Mall.

Official sources said Commissionerate Police is in talks with Kolkata Police regarding the case. Crime records of the women are being investigated and probe is underway, they said.
